it is hard to come out – either due to personal, familial, societal, financial, or a host of other completely valid reasons.
having personally struggled with my own identity for so long, i can empathize with others going through similar things.
we are not yet in a society where members of the LGBTQ+ community are able to live their lives without fear of insults, assault, or death.
the statistics vary, but a rough agreement is LGBTQ+ people are four times more likely to be victims of violent crime. Trans people see a suicide attempt rate around 35%.
it is hard to live in a world with that much hate and animosity toward a group of people just trying to live their lives.
that is where groups like The Trevor Project come in. they are a nonprofit focusing on suicide prevention, confidential assistance, resources to help the youth, and create legislation to make the world better for LGBTQ+ members.
